I will never forget the excitement I felt the day I got a call from PCC telling me I was going to receive a two year scholarship from the State Employees' Credit Union. I honestly thought they had me mixed up with someone else. Throughout high school, I was never on the A honor roll and I did not have any goals regarding college. Towards the end of my senior year, I decided to go to Piedmont Community College, but only because I felt that was what my parents wanted me to do. From the day I heard the news about receiving SECU's "People Helping People" Scholarship, my confidence in myself began to grow. I was told I received the scholarship, not based on grades, but because of the volunteer activities I had participated in throughout high school. The fact that someone saw potential in me meant so much, and I decided to hold my academics to a higher standard. I am now in my second year at PCC pursuing my Business and Accounting degree. I have been on the Dean's List twice and plan to continue my education beyond an Associate's degree. Thank you, SECU, for this outstanding opportunity. My life has truly changed because this foundation believed in me.

I am grateful to have been chosen for the "People Helping People" Scholarship. By having received this scholarship, I was able to fully focus on my studies without having to work my way through school. As a result of this scholarship, my first two years in the transfer program at ACC are completely paid for. This scholarship has helped me reach my full potential as a student. Thank you for your generosity.

I am proud to report that my progress at Southwestern Community College in Sylva, NC is going well. I have found out that the Radiography program was the right fit for me. I made the Dean's List in my first semester. The class voted me Vice-president of our club (the Latent Image Club) and I am also chairman of the fundraising committee. Now, in my second year of the program, I have been nominated for the Whos Who Among Students. None of these accomplishments would have been possible, if not for the "People Helping People" Scholarship. My dreams are coming true, and I would like to thank the SECU Foundation for having a part in my bright future.

My field of study is Human Service Technology. I would like to take the time to thank the SECU Foundation for their generosity. I lost my job in 2005 and did not know what I was going to do. It was after a while of praying; I decided to go back to school. When I started at Halifax Community College I was not eligible for financial aid. One of the employees told me to fill out a scholarship application, and I did. When I received your scholarship in 2006, I was completely overwhelmed. The generosity of the SECU Foundation is what students dreams are made of because it takes the financial burden off of us and allows us to focus on our studies, and for this I am truly grateful. Through their giving, the SECU Foundation has shown that their philosophy "People Helping People" is not just a catchy slogan, it is a way of life. I will never forget the kindness of the SECU Foundation, and I intend on to carry that slogan in my heart and incorporate it into my life. I have always felt that we are all our brother's keepers, and the SECU Foundation was surely mine.
