Feeding the Carolinas
Approved by Board of Directors: September 2018, April 2020, and September 2024
In response to the catastrophic flooding thousands of North Carolinians experienced from Hurricane Florence in 2018, SECU Foundation provided a $1 million grant to Feeding the Carolinas (formerly the NC Association of Feeding America Food Banks) to assist victims in North Carolina counties that were directly impacted by the storm. The grant supported food banks that directly serve residents in areas where emergency assistance was needed, and helped to provide water, food, cleaning supplies, and other essentials.
In a continued effort to support North Carolinians during a disaster, SECU Foundation awarded Feeding the Carolinas a $1 million grant in 2020 to aid in relief and recovery efforts from the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, State Employees’ Credit Union matched the $1 million gift, providing Feeding the Carolinas, North Carolina’s statewide network of food banks, a total of $2 million in donations. The funding helped the food banks secure the supplies they need to provide food to those facing hunger in communities across the state.
