Komen NC
Approved by Board of Directors: July 2019
SECU Foundation awarded a Challenge Grant to Komen NC in support of a two-year pilot study to help improve community-level cancer care access in two diverse high-need regions of North Carolina, the southwest centered in Charlotte and the northeast centered in Rocky Mount. Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer death among women in North Carolina. The study will allow for research to be done in North Carolina’s most at risk areas for gaps in breast cancer care to develop specific intervention strategies that will deliver impactful life-saving changes across the state. Komen wants to fill the gaps of care for patients and determine the most critical points for breast cancer intervention in our state. By beginning research in North Carolina’s most diverse and vulnerable locations, Komen can pave the way for breast cancer care and treatment for the rest of North Carolina.
