Facility sign for Surry Medical Ministries and SECU Health Resource Center

Approved by Board of Directors: July 2022

SECU Foundation awarded a $750,000 grant to Surry Medical Ministries to support their newly expanded clinic, the SECU Health Resource Center, serving individuals with little or no access to healthcare in northwestern NC. The opening of the Center’s fully equipped medical office will enable the non-profit to increase its capacity for the underserved by 20% in the first year, assisting an additional 600 to 800 eligible individuals in Surry, Alleghany, Wilkes, Stokes, and Yadkin counties. Surry Medical Ministries provides a wide range of healthcare services to the surrounding community and local nonprofits. It is the primary care physician for a local women’s homeless shelter and two transitional care homes, and the direct healthcare provider for two former Foundation grantees, The Shepherd’s House and The Children’s Center of Northwest North Carolina. SMM has provided low- or no-cost health services in the area since 1993.
