SECU Foundation awarded a $225,000 grant to PBS North Carolina to fund the statewide public media network’s production of the 2023 NC Year of the Trail series. The grant helps PBS NC share the recreational and environmental benefits of the state’s extensive trail system through digital profiles and public television broadcasts. The NC General Assembly passed a bill designating 2023 as “North Carolina Year of the Trail” to highlight NC’s trails and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the North Carolina Trails System Act. Year of the Trail promotes economic development and healthy lifestyles, and celebrates outdoor recreation in the state.
In 2026, the Foundation Board of Directors approved a $250,000 grant to support the production and launch of PBS NC’s Homegrown History Initiative, showcasing county-level historical stories from across the state.
